Debut runway collection, Intertwined, features billowing ruched dresses and silk gathered garments that effortlessly follow dramatically plush woven tops paired with workwear inspired canvas pieces. RAF presents a balance of clothing that clings to the human form while also disguising and exaggerating it. Roots of pragmatism from workwear and furniture textiles give way to imaginative reworks. Highlighting the waste one small brand can create to emphasize the enormous quantity of waste larger brands create, RAF’s team has saved pounds of scraps, down to the thread clippings. These scraps are transformed into stuffing, which is then used to create volume in pieces, a statement on how beauty in the fashion industry has an insidious dark side. Other pieces are upcycled from factory mistakes and reworked clothing. Focusing on cotton in the form of recycled denim, undyed canvas, poplin and deadstock french-terry, the collection achieves workwear in wonderland proving that the simplest materials can be manipulated to create complexity.
